Battle of the Bunnies!

Well, it has been a year of the attack of the bunnies!!!  We have some neighbors who had a nest of bunnies in their back yard.  The second I heard about this (a couple of weeks ago), I knew we were doomed!!!  You see, said neighbors, don’t really have any flowers or landscaping or anything fun for us to admire.  We have 2 vegetable gardens and a lot of plants that we have carefully selected for our landscaping around our house…I knew without a shadow of a doubt that the bunnies would make their way over to the McGee Buffet for an all you can eat affair.  Grrr.  Last year, we had a patch of bunnies, but kindly relocated them to the nearby field so that they could live a long and happy life.  Our neighbors did not feel that was a good option on their end. 

Fast forward a bit….well, I was right.  Plants that we had newly selected were gnawed down to the roots.  Perennial plants that we have had for a couple of years were either now twigs as they lost their beautiful foliage.  Other perennial plants were now MIA – yep, the bunnies got quite a few of our plants.  SO, off to the local nursery we go in search of the best way to stop these little guys (that doesn’t involve a bullet)!  After discussing our concerns with the experts and learning that our bunnies attacked plants that they normally would not touch, we came home armed with the best possible deterrent they had.  Papa McGee applied this miracle product, we crossed our fingers and hoped for the best!

Final fast forward to yesterday noon…Miss M and Mr. B just laid down for their nap.  Papa McGee went out to the garage to grab a little something for lunch from our freezer…or at least tried to do so.  He comes racing back in asking for assistance - a baby bunny invaded our garage and was making itself at home.  YIKES!  These little guys were not happy with our plan of attack.  We chased this little bugger around our garage.  He kept getting past us and hiding in the hardest to reach areas.  You all know what I am talking about (behind/under the deep freezer, behind a bunch of boxes and bags, behind various pieces of wood and garage tools…), normal garage stuff.  Our brilliant plan, start up the blower to blow it out of the tight spaces!  This led to an even bigger chase.  I am pretty sure that anyone walking by our house or in a two block radius could hear all of our commotion.  We even had one neighbor offer to send her hubby over to help catch this rascally rabbit!  He did NOT want to leave our garage!  And we did NOT want him staying in there.  With all of the heat and lack of food/water, we would have had a baby bunny crying and eventually dying a not so fun death.  I could not stand hearing that all night long! 

Finally, were able to trap the baby in a bucket and relocate him to a nearby field to live out its glory days with plenty of food to eat!  Unfortunately, with all that commotion, we came back into a house with BOTH Miss M and Mr. B wide awake! 

The good news:  A day and a half later, we are still bunny free!!!  Fingers crossed that we won the final battle!
