Swass and Swoobies

I woke up the other night to feed Mr. B and was covered in sweat thanks to a combination of nursing momma hormones and the sweatpants I wore to bed.  DISGUSTING!!!  My first thing I thought when I woke up was "swoobies", and that put a smile on my face.  You see, it reminded me of some my favorite people that I used to work with.

The office building, like most large office/medical buildings has a challenging time regulating temperature.  We have worked hard over the years to find the right temperature, but have been given many different reasons for why it's never right - remodeling, people messing with thermostats, etc.  One half of our office is lined with windows in the rooms, we refer to it as the "light side", the other half is the "dark side".  Well, of course, the light side gets quite warm with the afternoon sun shining down on those windows.  There was one particular week, where we were all so very warm regardless of being on either the light or dark side.  Two of the men we work with came out of the room declaring that they had swass.  As not everyone was familiar with that term/acronym, it was described with the level of seriousness that it commanded.  We then coined the term "swoobies" for those of us women who were pelted with all of the same heat.  Lots of laughter occurred as we all worked as a team to make sure that our patients were comfortable and that they all received the best care possible.

We all loved what we did and loved who we worked with.  The care we provided was a reflection of this.  Everyone made a choice that day to be happy, to enjoy life, despite the uncomfortable temperatures in our office.  While I no longer work with all of the people that reminded me of this story, I hope to always work in an environment full of people who believe in working and playing hard as a team, people who chose to be happy.

It's Summertime!

AHHHH, it's now summertime, aka, swim suit season!  This momma of an 8 week old had to face one of her fears this week...putting on a swim suit for the first time post baby!  Yes, I know that this is a "first world problem", but all you other mommas out there know exactly what I am thinking and feeling.

Papa McGee, Miss M, and I planned our first trip to the pool.  Mr. B was going to go spend some time with Meema as it was too hot outside for him.  We were all super excited about this, but I also dreaded this at the same time!  I'd been working out and have lost a lot of weight, but still have more to go.  Nothing is really toned the way I'd like it, my skin is pale from the lack of summer weather over the past 8+ weeks, and I just am not feeling great about the way I look at the moment.

So, I started trying on all of my swim suits in my closet.  I started first with my maternity suit.  It was too big...phew!  On to round two, three, four and more!  I would like the top from one and the bottom from another - the color from this one, and the pattern from that one.  With less than an hour to go before we make our way to spend the day in the sun, I needed to make a decision on something, and shopping for a new swim suit was not an option!

Then it hit me, my hubby loves me and continually reminds me that he is attracted to me, we are going to a family member's pool, I do not need to impress anyone, and I have two beautiful children!

We had an afternoon full of memories none of which included how this momma looked in her swim suit.  The moral of the story is that we need to work on being healthy, get past our body image issues, and just enjoy life!

Battle of the Bunnies!

Battle of the Bunnies!

Well, it has been a year of the attack of the bunnies!!!  We have some neighbors who had a nest of bunnies in their back yard.  The second I heard about this (a couple of weeks ago), I knew we were doomed!!!  You see, said neighbors, don’t really have any flowers or landscaping or anything fun for us to admire.  We have 2 vegetable gardens and a lot of plants that we have carefully selected for our landscaping around our house…I knew without a shadow of a doubt that the bunnies would make their way over to the McGee Buffet for an all you can eat affair.  Grrr.  Last year, we had a patch of bunnies, but kindly relocated them to the nearby field so that they could live a long and happy life.  Our neighbors did not feel that was a good option on their end.

Fast forward a bit….well, I was right.  Plants that we had newly selected were gnawed down to the roots.  Perennial plants that we have had for a couple of years were either now twigs as they lost their beautiful foliage.  Other perennial plants were now MIA – yep, the bunnies got quite a few of our plants.  SO, off to the local nursery we go in search of the best way to stop these little guys (that doesn’t involve a bullet)!  After discussing our concerns with the experts and learning that our bunnies attacked plants that they normally would not touch, we came home armed with the best possible deterrent they had.  Papa McGee applied this miracle product, we crossed our fingers and hoped for the best!

Final fast forward to yesterday noon…Miss M and Mr. B just laid down for their nap.  Papa McGee went out to the garage to grab a little something for lunch from our freezer…or at least tried to do so.  He comes racing back in asking for assistance - a baby bunny invaded our garage and was making itself at home.  YIKES!  These little guys were not happy with our plan of attack.  We chased this little bugger around our garage.  He kept getting past us and hiding in the hardest to reach areas.  You all know what I am talking about (behind/under the deep freezer, behind a bunch of boxes and bags, behind various pieces of wood and garage tools…), normal garage stuff.  Our brilliant plan, start up the blower to blow it out of the tight spaces!  This led to an even bigger chase.  I am pretty sure that anyone walking by our house or in a two block radius could hear all of our commotion.  We even had one neighbor offer to send her hubby over to help catch this rascally rabbit!  He did NOT want to leave our garage!  And we did NOT want him staying in there.  With all of the heat and lack of food/water, we would have had a baby bunny crying and eventually dying a not so fun death.  I could not stand hearing that all night long!

Finally, were able to trap the baby in a bucket and relocate him to a nearby field to live out its glory days with plenty of food to eat!  Unfortunately, with all that commotion, we came back into a house with BOTH Miss M and Mr. B wide awake!

The good news:  A day and a half later, we are still bunny free!!!  Fingers crossed that we won the final battle!

Introduction

June 5, 2015

Welcome!

So, I created my blog over a week ago and have procrastinated writing an entry as I felt that the first entry needed to be something fantastic…Then I remembered, I’m not some famous blogger.  HA!  Nobody outside of my immediate circle (and maybe not even my immediate circle) will most likely ever read a single thing I have to say.  This blog is really something that I am doing for me.  Don’t get me wrong, I hope all that read it will enjoy it or learn something from it or find a little humor in it or something like that, but if it’s never read by anyone else, that’s completely ok with me as well.

There have been a number of big events that have occurred since the time that I started this blog.  It’s crazy to think that is possible, but trust me it is.  I may go back and write about them at some point, I may not…we will just have to see what happens!

I decided to take this very first blog entry to just introduce myself and my family.  I am Momma McGee, and this blog is one way for me to find a creative outlet in my life.  I am happily married to the man of my dreams and will refer to him as Papa McGee (until I come up with something better)!  We have 2 kiddos – Miss M and Mr. B.  Currently, Miss M is almost 2 years old, and Mr. B is almost 2 months old.  We also have an 11 year old grumpy old man dog, H!  Our happy house is full of love and craziness!  I can only imagine that it will get crazier over the next few years as the kids continue to grow.

So, there it is…nothing epic or crazy.  Just a simple introduction with a lot of other fluff included as a bonus!

Enjoy!
